Breath to Breath: Interview with Valerie Scagliola of Haven Breathwork

“All of our emotions are tied to the breath!”
— Valerie Scagliola

Yes, second female guest! In this healing conversation, Valerie and I dive right into my favorite topics: breathwork, physiological response, emotions and healing!

We started with uncovering Valerie’s breath of origin story which began in the middle of the pandemic when her previously unaddressed anxiety became unmanageable, living in survival mode, melting stress with 4:7:8 breathing, listening to our inner pings, releasing inner trauma, big “T” and little “t” traumas, blending spirit and science in breathwork practices, helping the world’s stressed out moms, creating consistent proactive breathing practices, Valerie’s jump to full time breathwork coaching transition, breathing through challenge and change, letting your authenticity show, co-regulation for creating healthier homes, understanding the western woo-woo, choosing different breathing shapes for different goals, being the expert of our own bodies, holding space for things we don’t yet understand, somatic practices to help release adrenaline, helping “move” the nervous system in our body, breathwork as a form of meditation, learning through sight-touch-sound integration, setting your breath up for success, starting FIRST with breath awareness, the cumulative benefits of better breathing, correlating how you breathe and how you feel, connection over competition, and breathwork for post-COVID clients.

ABOUT VALERIE:

Valerie Scagliola is a Certified Breathing Coach and Facilitator based in the San Francisco Bay Area.

She became passionate about breathwork and somatic practices at a time when she was stuck in survival mode–anxious, stressed, completely overwhelmed and burnt out. When she discovered conscious breathing, everything changed. Soon after practicing daily and experimenting with different breathwork techniques and movement, she learned how to properly release stress and regulate her nervous system. She noticed that her anxiety no longer disrupted her life and that she was on a path to healing.

At that point, she felt a calling toward her life purpose and wanted to share and teach this work to others. After becoming certified, Valerie created a set of offerings, including her signature 6-week program Breath of Life, to coach others to improve their physical, mental, and emotional well-being. In her practice, she draws from a collection of somatic-based healing modalities to help her clients release stress and regulate their nervous system. Her unique approach blends pranayama, therapeutic breathing, gentle movement, and self-discovery.  Her passion lies in creating and holding space for people to be seen, feel safe, let go, and heal.

Valerie is currently working toward a certification in integrated somatic trauma therapy and, in December 2022, she looks forward to bringing more trauma-informed care and practices to her clients.
